The CMR document contains information related to the subjects of law and object of the contract and is used to control the transport of merchandise at an international level, without there being a coincidence between the country of loading and that of unloading, and when at least one of the two states have signed the Convention.
Normally the CMR transport document will consist of three copies:
- Sender's copy.
- Copy for the addressee.
- Copy that will accompany the goods to their final destination
In this way, it is possible to have all the information in one place with the aim of creating a better experience for the client and making all management easier and faster.
The electronic transport documentation or e-CMR is already valid in 30 countries and the year 2024 is established as the date of mandatory use of the electronic CMR, therefore the different links in the supply chain are preparing for the development of the necessary platform. that allows the use of the electronic CMR or digital bill of lading.
Shippers benefit the most from this digitization process, since it is a tool that provides a significant number of advantages such as interoperability and ease of document management, which makes transport more efficient and competitive.
A significant number of shipper associations have joined the different working groups that promote the use of this electronic documentation in the transport of goods, but it is striking that just over a year after its mandatory application, the most important shipping companies do not already have this tool integrated into their digital ecosystem.
